An introduction to the Improv Match

Wednesday September 24th
4:30 - 6:30 pm
at 1454 rue Atateken

2h  |  $40

This workshop is bilingual

Designed and developed by the National Improv League (LNI) in 1977, the improv match has been at the heart of bringing improv matches to life—sparking the rise of spontaneous theatre across Quebec. Today, it remains the most popular format among the countless leagues in the province, played as much in elementary school as in bars, constantly evolving with every new performer and every audience.

But what exactly is an improv match? Is it truly competitive? How do players handle strict constraints on the spot? Does a penalty always mean the scene went wrong? And do you really have to make the audience laugh to win their vote? Join us for a hands-on workshop that dives into the unique challenges and dynamics of the improv match. You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how it works—and a deeper appreciation for the artistry that drives it. To top it off, the workshop will be followed by a live match, showcasing some great talents from the English and French scenes of Montreal!
